Your team asks TraitTune where it already talks. TraitTune answers with what it knows about how each person works best, from the personality profiles your team chose to share in TraitTune.
What it does
Ask in a channel: mention @TraitTune with a question, such as how to run a hard conversation with a colleague or how the team splits work best. It answers in that thread.
Ask privately: message TraitTune directly, or type /traittune followed by your question. Only you see the answer.
Questions about the team are answered in the thread only while your team picture in TraitTune is open. Anything about one person goes privately to the person who asked.
What you ask and what it answers can become notes in your own TraitTune memory, so your Companion remembers it in TraitTune too.
It answers only when asked. It never reads channels or threads where nobody asked it, never copies or syncs your Slack conversations, and never posts about one person in a channel.
About the AI
Answers are written by TraitTune’s AI models, auto-routed across commercial and open-weight models and hosted in the United States. AI answers can be wrong or incomplete: check anything important before you act on it. TraitTune gives a view to think with, not a decision about people. It does not answer hiring or screening questions with a verdict, and it never makes a decision about a person for you. Nothing from Slack is used to train any AI model.
Before you start
A TraitTune Team workspace, and an owner or admin of it to add the app.
Any Slack plan works, including free plans.
Many companies let only a Slack admin approve new apps. If so, Slack sends your request to them.
Each person who asks needs their own TraitTune account in that Team workspace. TraitTune asks them to link it the first time.
Add to Slack
Sign in at traittune.com as an owner or admin of your Team workspace.
Open Settings → Connected apps and choose Slack.
Choose Add to Slack. Slack shows what TraitTune asks for (listed below). Pick your Slack workspace and choose Allow.
You come back to Connected apps, which shows Slack as Connected and what to do next.
In Slack, type /invite @TraitTune in each channel where your team should be able to ask it.
Use it
Link your account (once)
The first time you ask, TraitTune sends you a private message with a link. Open it, sign in to TraitTune, check that the name and team are yours, and choose Link account. The link works once, for 10 minutes. TraitTune never links an account by email alone.
Ask
In a channel:@TraitTune how do I give Emil feedback he will hear?
Privately: message TraitTune, or /traittune how do I open the deadline talk?
Help:/traittune help, or send TraitTune the word help.
People from other organizations in a shared (Slack Connect) channel get general help only; nothing about your team.
What it can access
TraitTune asks Slack for these permissions, and uses each one only for this:
app_mentions:read — read the messages that mention @TraitTune, so it can answer them.
im:history — read the messages people send to TraitTune itself, so it can answer them. It cannot read anyone else’s direct messages.
chat:write — post its answer in the thread, or privately to the person who asked.
commands — the /traittune command.
There are no optional permissions. It cannot read channels, files, other people’s messages, or anyone’s Slack profile or email address.
Remove it
In TraitTune: Settings → Connected apps → Slack → Disconnect. TraitTune removes itself from your Slack.
Or in Slack: open Tools & settings → Manage apps, choose TraitTune and Remove app.
What happens to the data:
Either way, TraitTune deletes its Slack access, every account link and the memory notes that came from Slack straight away.
Answers it already posted stay in your Slack, under your company’s Slack rules. Delete them in Slack if you wish.
Leaving your company’s TraitTune workspace or deleting your TraitTune account ends your link.
